- Have you considered a black lab? We had a dog who lived to be
- 15 years and was a wonderful companion and showed signs of being
- a good hunter. She was not trained to hunt but her instincts were
- such that she did well the few times we took her out. She did scare up
- a few grouse and pheasants. She was not 100% black lab but had a great
- disposition, wonderful with children (she was raised with mine), was a
- house pet and loved to be around family. We live in the country where
- she could rome freely but she rarely strayed from the house. She didn't
- have a mean bone in her body.
-
- Unfortunately, we had to put her to sleep this summer because of hip
- dysplasia and old age and it was a sad time for us all. Now we are in
- the process of getting another puppy that we hope will not be exactly
- like Winkey, but who can have some of her wonderful qualities.
-
- Good luck on finding a friend and hunting companion.
-
- Black lab or mostly black lab (hunting stock) gets my vote.
