  19. By kitty valium, I guess you're talking about acepromazine, which
  20. is the most common tranquilizer for cats around this neck of the
  21. woods.  It's chemically related to the human tranquilizer chlorpromazine,
  22. not to valium.

  24. I've used ace for travel problems (though it's a moot point as to
  25. whether a screeching terrified cat or a silly-drunk singing cat
  26. is harder to put up with), and for cats who freaked with changes in
  27. their environment (Lucy was very upset when a friend was sleeping
  28. on our living room floor till his apartment was ready-- the ace was
  29. the ONLY way any of us got any sleep).   I've also used it on a
  30. short term basis when introducing a new cat to the crew -- Dumdum
  31. used to spray whenever there was a stranger around.

  33. It seems to be quit safe and effective for short-term use.  HOWEVER,
  34. it does rev some cats up (so if you're planning on using it to shut
  35. the little darlings up on a long car trip, try it ahead of time), and
  36. it seems to cause some problems with thermoregulation in some animals--
  37. they can't maintain their correct body temperature in very hot or
  38. very cold situations.
