- Regarding the courting male tiel:
-
- His behavior is classic courtship. He's simply trying to impress the
- female with his posture and vocal talents. Normally, the birds would
- learn whistles and chirps from other tiels, but yours has incorporated
- kissing and talking into his routine. They can be very persistant.
- A male of one of my breeder pairs would whistle full volume directly
- into the ear of the female for hours each day.
-
- Regarding Timnehs:
-
- Timnehs are African Greys. They're just one of the subspecies (Timneh
- and Congo being the most popular). Their intelligence and talent at
- mimicry are equal to those of the Congos. Some even think that Timnehs
- are sweeter than their cousins. They differ in physical appearance in
- that the Timnehs are smaller, have a partially pink upper beak, are
- darker in feather, and have a maroon tail. I have one as a pet myself.
-
- The Timnehs are not imported as much as the Congos, leading to a certain
- mystic about them. Some people are not aware that the Timnehs have
- just as good a personality as the Congos. As more Timnehs are
- domestically bred, then their price will probably increase slightly
- when people become more familar with them.
