- I've used a Lansky sharpening system for a few years now and swear by it.
- Lansky is located in New York (USA). The kit is a brase for the blade with
- pre-set guides at 35 - 30 - 25 - and 20 degree (as I recall) guide slots
- to accept the guide rods from a series of mounted stones of graduated
- grits from very course to 1000 (extra fine). The 25/20 degree setting is
- what I use on my Normark fillet knife. I use 30 degree for a lasting working
- edge and when I finish my buck knife with the 1000 grit I can literally
- shave the hair off of my arm with it. The only drawback that I've found is
- the system doesn't lend itself to well to blades longer than six or seven
- inches.
-
- A five stone kit from the factory is around $50.00 - When I melted mine
- by a camp fire the company REPLACED IT FOR FREE! Threw in a free hook
- sharpener and cap too!!! Bass Pro used to have them in their catelogue
- (or was it Gander Mountain...) I'll provide the address/phone for
- Lansky uppon e-mail request.
-
- They also have a set of Diamond stones but the price is around $90.00 and
- I couldn't justify the expense for sharpening every-day knives.
-
- WARNING: if used correctly you'll get a RAZOR EDGE that will cut flesh
- with little or no preasure..... I've slipped while finishing an edge with
- the 1000 and given myself some mean cuts to the (remaining) finger tips...
