  177. How Did You Do?

  179. If you answered at least nine questions correctly,  you've  done  fairly
  180. well.   Mensa  recommends  you send for a preliminary test which you can
  181. take at home without supervision.  Although this preliminary test is not
  182. required   to   qualify   for  membership,  many  individuals  who  have
  183. successfully passed the supervised qualifying test have stated that  the
  184. preliminary  test  was  extremely  helpful  in  preparing them.  This is
  185. especially true if it has been some time since you have taken  any  kind
  186. of timed, written examination.
  187.  
  188. Remember, on the supervised test, you must score at or  above  the  98th
  189. percentile.   You  should feel comfortable and at ease with the types of
  190. questions which will be asked.  The preliminary test  will  not  contain
  191. any  of  the  same  questions  as  the  supervised test, however it does
  192. contain similar questions and may help you get used to  the  process  of
  193. test taking again.

  225. The answer that Sally likes perfect  squares  is  the  answer  that  the
  226. question  writer  was  "looking"  for.   Mensans always like to bend the
  227. rules a little, and find other  solutions  that  give  you  the  correct
  228. answer:
  229.  
  230. * Sally likes numbers whose sum of the digits  is  odd.   Therefore  she
  231.   likes 1600, not 1700.
  232.  
  233. Or other solutions that give the incorrect answer:

  235. * Sally likes numbers in which the sum of the digits plus the number  of
  236.   digits equals 12.  Therefore, she likes 225, 900, 144, and, of course,
  237.   1700.
