- As 1992 passes into oblivion, I'd like to start a thread on the best
- reggae recordings of the past year. I'll start with two that I added to
- my collection this year.
-
- Mikey Dread - Obsession
-
- Seventy minutes of excellent reggae. I already owned Profile by Mikey,
- and this is very different. Some people might object that it is
- overproduced, and I won't argue with that for the most part. But
- there's a little of everything in this recording--driving rhythms, slow
- ballad types, big bass beat, etc.
-
- Lucky Dube - House of Exile
-
- This was recommended over in rec.music.afro-latin before this group was
- created. I picked up a used copy and it is superb. An excellent
- backing band provides a solid background for the intelligent lyrics. I
- second the nomination for this one without reservation.
-
- What have other people found that they'd like to share? Of course I
- should have posted this long before my trip to California and my
- pilgrimage to Tower.
