- I think it's elitist. Just because it refers to the pranksters, or a "cool"
- group of people or whatever, doesn't change the fact that it's talking
- about a clique and either you are in it or you are not in it. Any group
- which has "membership" (on or off) is elitist, since by definition you need
- some qualification (being a merry prankster, taking acid, checking out
- of society) to be a member.
-
- I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing. That's how life is-- you have
- a bunch of people who are your friends. They have interests in common
- with you. You aren't friends (doesn't mean aren't friendly) with people
- who don't have a lot in common with you. But you of course are a lot
- more psyched to be places, and with people, you bond with. But it is
- the differences between people and different interests and beliefs
- and exclusionary attidutes (the bad side of it) that cause most of the
- world's problems. Heavy, huh? Maybe I should write a paper... oh I graduated
- already! Shit! Time to go back to school :-)
-
- So to tie all this in with Phish (I had to justify this post somehow!)
- Phish is kind of a clique. The phish net is. We all like to talk
- about phish and phishy stuff so we all read and write to the net, but
- perhaps we are on occasion a wee bit unforgiving of people who are new
- and are just learning about this whole subculture which we are very
- familiar with, but are really psyched about it and want to get
- involved. I think that should be avoided, the "bus o' phish" is big
- enough for everyone who wants to get on.
-
- That's my philosophical ramble for the month. See y'all at the year's end!
