- JOKE MODE OFF:
-
- I used to say I collect newage music, but now I say I collect electronic
- music and some newage (most people seem to be able to understand at least
- one of those terms). The flavors I prefer within those broad catagories
- include: instrumental rock, space musice, classical, country & western (but
- sadly there is very little of this available), and jazz (well some jazz).
-
- I have bought recordings I have never heard before based on what record label
- it is on, the instrumentation used, the picture on the cover, the name of
- the recording, the price (heck, if it is under $3 I'll buy almost anything),
- etc. About the only thing I have stopped doing is taking someones word for
- it (one of my most hated purchases was based on a recommendation from some
- one I met here on the net, and no, I no longer own it so you can't get it
- cheap from me).
-
- I doubt that the discussion here on the net will solve this problem unless
- we can come up with an acceptable name to replace "newage music" and then
- we lobby heavily record stores, record labels, radio stations, etc. to use
- the new term. Heck, I would settle for it to be labeled easy listening and
- it could be divided into two subcategories (instrumental and vocal) for
- larger stores.

- P.S. Does any one know of any electronic instrumental country space rock
- recordings (you know with synthesizer(s), guitars [acoustic and/or electronic
- and/or bass and/or steel], fiddle(s), with a danceable beat). Please start
- a new thread for a response to this request.
