- That last is the reason I don't do this. I generally will no longer buy an
- album unless I've heard something by the band at least once, because even
- albums I've bought based on recommendations from friends whose opinions I
- trust have not always been things I enjoyed. I have a small stack of CDs I'm
- trying to get rid of because I bought them without having heard them, and
- ended up not caring for them at all.
-
- So, I would hesitate to buy an album I'd never heard even if I'd heard from
- friends that it was good; I certainly wouldn't take random chances based on
- some teenage record store clerk's opinion of what albums are in the same
- category. Then again, being in school for the last four years gave me ample
- opportunity to borrow albums from friends before buying, and working in
- academia for the last six months has allowed me to continue this practice.
- If I didn't have the luxufy of being able to borrow before I bought, I might
- be more inclined to take shots in the dark, as it were.
-
- The moral of the story? The time-honored classic: "Different people do
- things differently." (grin) If it works for you, electronic-music on.
