  11. I've been recently toying with the idea of getting a MIDI keyboard and
  12. software for my Macintosh, and I need some advice on what I should go for.

  14. I took two years of music theory in college, but I can't play the
  15. piano well yet.  I want to be able to practice playing, but also to
  16. easily write scores on the computer and have it play them for me.
  17. Lots of features would be nice, but I don't require anything
  18. industrial-strength.

  20. I was looking the other day at a Yamaha PSR-400 (I think that was the
  21. name... maybe it was PSM-400?).  It went for about $400 at The Good Guys,
  22. and I liked it a lot.  $400 is the high end of what I'd be willing to
  23. spend, though.

  25. Is this a good keyboard?  Is there anything of comparable power that's
  26. less expensive?  And what software should I get?  I've seen Deluxe
  27. Music Construction Set and it looks *awful*, but I've heard Finale is
  28. nice.  Also, where could I get a good Mac<->MIDI adapter?  Do I need
  29. any other equipment?

  31. How much should this whole setup cost me?  If the final pricetag is
  32. more than $600 or so, I might as well buy a VCR.  ;-)  Of course,
  33. this whole decision could be pointless; I have a Mac IIvx, and there
  34. have been reports of it not being compatible with MIDI.
