- The original poster was that by-now-inframous "playground bully"
- Clayton Glad. We did, of course, score a copy of the Klezmatics
- disc at the station, and it *is* everything that Mr. Glad (you can
- call him Dave) said. I'm still hunting for a copy of that Omoide
- Hatoba disc that was the other half of that posting.
-
- Yikes - if we really *do* all wind up agreeing with each other on what
- kinds of stuff we like like this, then it'll look really bad. I'll do
- my bit to dispell the clouds of self-congratulation that I also carried
- home a copy of Robert Palmer's new disc (the young man who sold it at my
- favorite emporium for used CDs kept tugging angrily at his on-backwards
- baseball cap and his pre-Raphaelite locks, declaiming loudly that "It
- sucked and didn't rock" *so* loudly that I picked it up.) It's all
- standards of the croon variety, with Teo Macero doing` the production.
- Of course, I can't write the smartguy net review until I figure out whose
- records of the original versions of this stuff we had at my house on the
- Kooky Cat record player (his arm terminated in the stylus) before I
- actually can attempt to sound learned. If I was just the dx, this would
- be *much* easier. Forgiving the bias, let me briefly say that Bobby
- Palmer acquits himself much better than Ms. O'Connor in the "retro
- ballad" category, though the big band arrangements don't shiver and
- warble quite as well as the stuff the late Nelson Riddle did for Linda
- Ronstadt. Also, there are no covers of "Simply Irresistable." It's another
- commercial suicide move for Mr. P. Bongos? Sambas? Oboes?
