- I agree with most everything William said, but I have an addition:
-
- Dumbeks.
-
- These drums are fabulous. Ceramic or metal, they are a convenient size
- and have the variety of tone (ringy, flat highs, beautiful vibrational lows
- and a lot in between) that most goblet drums have. Especially when tuned
- low (only possible on metal dumbeks with tuning screws).
-
- Another good point: they are readily available for $80 or less. Two known
- sources: Mideast Manufacturing, Melbourne FL; House of Musical Traditions,
- Takoma Park, MD (301) 270-9090.
-
- I have had a metal dumbek for about three years and love it. It is lightweight
- and sturdy (the ceramic dumbek is neither :( )
-
- More hand drumming stuff out there?
-
- Peace, Rea Klosky
