- Just got a couple tapes in the mail.
-
- Jonathan Briley "At The Mountains of Madness"
- Jon Briley is a member of "Sleep Chamber". I took a chance with this one as
- Sleep Chamber seems to be more of a "Goth" band than industrial most of the
- time. I was pleasantly suprised. This tape is excellent "pure" industrial.
- Lots of machine noise combined with weird feedback gives an outre feel to
- this piece of work. Strong "factory" feel to it without the bleep-bleep
- hard-edges of bands such as Throbbing Gristle or E.N. Spooky stuff
- with a pretentiously done reading of Anton LaVey's "Satanic Diatrebe" on the
- fourth track "Furie's Child".
- A nice piece of work; if you like "Hardcore" industrial noize, this is the
- shit!
-
- Zoviet France "Loh Land"
- I've been a ZF fan for a while now; all their work has been fairly good
- so far. This is the best I have heard yet. Strong tribal rythms with a
- weird haunting feedback. ZF makes use of some type of stringed instruments on
- this tape, but in an unconventional manner. The whole tape has rather middle-
- eastern sounding harmonies paradoxiacally combined with the strong tribal beat.
- If we were to find some primitive culture on another planet, their music might
- sound like this ZF tape. Typically ambiguous & bizzare ZF record cover.
- Thumbs up!

- Randy Greif
- My first full length Randy Greif work. I thought his work on the various
- compilations were very good, and was not dissapointed in this one. Greif, ever
- the experimenter, runs the gamut of several styles of experimental music.
- Some sounds like classical music loops cut & spliced in interesting
- combinations to create new harmonies. Other tracks have a strong tribal sound
- to them. Some sound like Tangerine Dream on bad acid. Some have a dark machine
- ambience to them. About the only thing these tracks have in common is that
- they are all creative & well done.
-
- I plan on buying all I can of R.G. and J.B.'s work as it is quite good
- compared to some of the more "mainstream" bands such as NWW or E.N. and a
- hell of a lot cheaper at 2 tapes for $5
-
- Nurse With Wound "A Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table..."
- I really wish Stapleton would lose his fascination with screeching dissonance.
- I enjoy the noise fests of various other bands, unfortunately Stapleton's
- Staple seems to be harsh high-frequency screeches that are utterly
- unlistenable most of the time. When he is not scratching chalkboards he comes
- up with some interesting pieces, but unfortunately, it is seems to be easier
- to scratch chalkboards for the majority of the record. I ain't buying anymore
- NWW without hearing the whole thing first. I will give this tape another listen
- (Preferably while heavily sedated so as not to give me high blood pressure)
- but I doubt as I will find anything new. At least I will pinpoint that one
- interesting track. Steve Stapleton _does_ paint some really interesting &
- entertaining album covers, perhaps he should stick to the visual arts.
-
- Next time AMK/PGR/AEM "Flatland"
- PGR/Thessalonians "Concentration of light Before Combustion" and "The Black
- Field"
