- Since it is official that the Dead are playing the Dean Smith Center in
- Chapel Hill, let me tell you about the Dean Smith Center.
-
- As you surely know, the Dean Smith Center was named after Dean Smith, the
- winningest coach in college hoops, and current coach of the UNC mens team.
- Naturally, the UNC team gets a lot of TV time, and when the Smith center
- is on TV, it used to sound a lot too quiet. Although the fans were
- cheering, the sound does not carry in the Smith Center, and so on TV it
- would always sound like a real quiet audience even though people were
- cheering; that's how bad the sound is. In fact, when you see the games
- now and hear cheering, it is because over the student section they have
- placed microphones, and they amplify the sound of the student section and
- carry it over speakers located all around the arena.
-
- In addition, every concert I've seen at the Smith Center has had really
- poor sound. So good luck, Mr. Healy and company! It's really too bad
- the Dead have to play in such a terrible arena.
