- One Christmas Eve a few years ago, a beautiful, cold and gorgeously
- snowy night, I was walking home full of Holiday good cheer when I
- passed a homeless man asleep in a doorway. In a split second I was
- stopped in my tracks staring and filled with thoughts of the unfortunate
- dichotomy between his situation and mine. At that he awoke bewildered
- by my silent presence and simply said hello. The long and short of it
- is that I brought him home for a bath, something to eat and a warm place
- to sleep. He left Christmas morning and returned to his cold and lonely
- homeless life. It was a small gesture on my part but it made us both
- feel like better human beings. Would you consider gift wrapping a pair
- of gloves, warm socks, or a sweater, a scarf or something else suitable
- and giving it to the next street person you pass? "Don't give it up,
- you've got an empty cup only love can fill." - Robert Hunter

- Okay guys, snow's predicted down to 1000' in the Bay Area, so you know
- it's gonna get colder. I have been wrapping socks and gloves for a week
- now; most parcels are met with hesitance and a yell of thanks when I'm
- halfway down the block--it's best to keep your giving low-key, with a
- simple hand-off and a word of encouragement. This is a truly selfless
- act and I'm grateful to Marty for sharing this idea with us.
