- I was there for a few hours in Jan '92. I liked the place... :-)

- I tried some SC guitars, rosewood OM, I think, and a Tony Rice and
- a regular D. Very nice, open sounding guitars. At that time I was
- thinking that 'it takes a very good Martin to compete with these'
- I own a custom shop J-40MC. I like to think of it as a modern model,
- no, I couldn't afford Braz rosewood, I have only big frets and small
- cosmetics. But slightly better woods than in regular production
- models, with some exceptions, of course.
-
- Hard to remember exactly the guitars, I had way too little time to
- spend in there. But the guitars that left the strongest impression
- were Collings' models. Well, Collings and SCGC dreadnoughts are kinda
- similar, a lot of prewar specs in both. SCGC's Richard Hoover and Bill
- Collings both build 'stress-free' guitars and I think that has a lot
- to do with the open sound quality in brand new guitars.
