- Does anyone know if anything is being done to reduce the silly prices of
- UK CDs? I thought this was being investigated by the MMC. Anyway, I've
- just returned from a trip to Boston and spoke to a record buyer. He
- said that on his trips to the UK, he gets CDs cheaper than the UK
- buyers because he's going to be selling the CDs in the US. If the UK
- manufacturers can afford to sell at the lower prices for export to the
- US, then they can afford to sell at the same price for sale in the UK.
- If this isn't a blantant example of price fixing, I dunno what is.
- I got UK folk CDs in the US for about 8 pound each, about 2/3 of the
- UK price. If they can still make a profit at this price, allowing
- for shipping and import taxes then it shows that the UK manufacturers
- are really creaming off profits at the expense of bands and the UK
- consumer.
