- I couldn't agree more. All of your points are on target. As her album cover
- designer sometimes says, "Laura's just not willing to bite the bullet." I
- guess there's a subtle balance of compromise that Laura's trying to achieve
- between upping her popularity and going all-out commercial (which would spoil
- her image). Yet there is a commerical link there which she could use to good
- purposes - the pop stuff she wrote early on that got covered by 5th Dimension,
- et al. She could be as highly recognized for those tunes as John Phillips was
- for "the most popular song of 1987 - California Dreaming."
-
- Although she's been off the scene for most of the 80's, she is in touring mode
- these days, and as for videos, she did in fact have one played on VH1 - but it
- wasn't a video in the conventional sense, it was just a video of her
- performing solo. I can't picture Nyro doing a video with slick, high-speed
- editing and all that stuff. It would be very embarrassing. Videos in general
- tend to be embarrassing, but this is my opinion.
-
- But getting back to the main point - Yes, her relationship with the music
- business will only go as far as she is willing to go. And I think she's more
- concerned with relaying her message her own way. And... it's not so bad, why
- are we whining? She's a survivor... She's more active on the music scene than
- Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, or Janis Joplin these days.
