-
- 1. Million Dollar Bash #1 - from the new set of Basement Tapes that
- just came into circulation (hereafter "new tapes").
-
- 2. Yea Heavy and a Bottle of Bread #1 - from the new tapes.
-
- 3. Million Dollar Bash #2 - the original mix of the released version
- (hereafter "original mix").
-
- 4. Yeah Heavy and a Bottle of Bread #2 - original mix.
-
- 5. Please Mrs Henry - original mix.
-
- 6. Crash On the Levee #1 - from the new tapes.
-
- 7. Crash On The Levee #2 - original mix.
-
- 8. Lo and Behold #1 - from the new tapes.
-
- 9. Lo and Behold #2 - original mix.
-
- 10. Ferdinand the Imposter - previously unavailable [?] vocal by Danko
- or maybe Manuel. This one is incomplete.

-
- 12. This Wheel's On Fire - original mix.
-
- 13. You Ain't Going Nowhere - original mix.
-
- 14. I Shall Be Released - original mix.
-
- 15. Too Much of Nothing #2 - claims to be a stereo mix of the original
- version (not the released one); doesn't sound like stereo to me.
-
- 16. Even a Tomato - an instrumental; I don't know where the title
- comes from.
-
- 17. Santa Fe - original mix.
-
- 18. Silent Weekend - from the new tapes.
-
- 19. Too Much of Nothing #1 - original mix.
-
- 20. Sign On the Cross - previously available on the Blind Boy Grunt &
- The Hawks Basement Tapes lp set, the only Dylan vocal from that
- set which didn't appear on the first two volumes of GBT.
-
-
- NB: the source descriptions given above were determined somewhat
- casually on the basis of one listening. I could easily have gotten
- some wrong...
-
-
-
- Taken together, the first three GBT discs comprise the best collection
- so far of (Dylan-vocal) Basement Tapes material. They contain the
- original mixes of all released tracks; all unreleased tracks that have
- commonly been circulated; and a sprinkling of the some of the more
- rare unreleased tracks. Sound quality is at least as good as any
- previously available versions, in many cases better. In particular,
- the original mixes are almost always more satisfying than the "cleaned
- up" (sic) versions that were officially released, even though some
- tracks, especially on vol. 3, have a fair amount of hiss.
-
- There are supposedly two more discs forthcoming in the GBT series.
