  29. Excuse me, but this is utterly ridiculous.  The concept of an artist 
  30. wishing suffering on herself is a product of pop culture.  (A mis-guided
  31. caricature attempting to poke holes in the artifice of self-importance so 
  32. hated by the popular media).

  34. My point, (one more time, please turn up the volume for the hard of 
  35. hearing) is simple and concrete -> real artists do what they have to do.  
  36. They don't compromise; they are truthful to themselves.  If this means 
  37. leaving the university community and getting a job (as it did in my case) 
  38. then so be it.  If it means being laid off and losing your apartment then
  39. so be it.  But no artist that cares for her work looks for disappointment 
  40. or failure.  Please, that is so condescending and insular.

  42. My attack at Mr. Schottstaedt's less than witty response to my comments 
  43. about living _was_ in anger.  Our culture is in serious trouble because 
  44. we all make too many compromises.  Know thyself and write the music which 
  45. you must.  Let nothing interfere with this process.  These are simple 
  46. suggestions which imply risk-taking.
