- I seem to recall the date on the letter being 1924, so it would be
- before the infamous NYPSO debacle of 1927/8 in which Olin Downes and
- the 'society' types who ran the symphony society muscled out
- Furtwaengler (and Mengelberg) in favour of Toscanini.

- I am still amazed at what those seasons must have been like, with
- those 3 at the helm of the orchestra. Unimaginable today.
