  13.  Let me second Francois Velde's praise of the Harnoncourt
  14. Poppea - the final duet is one of the most movingly beautiful
  15. pieces of music I know. And a fine candidate for the best-ending
  16. category that was floating around. 
  17.  The only other recording that comes close (in my view) is
  18. the old Glyndebourne performance with Richard Lewis and a soprano
  19. I should remember but can't. The recording is an abbreviated versuion
  20. of Raymond Leppard's performing edition - not `authentic` by today's
  21. standards, but this (plus Nadia Boulanger's madrigal performances and
  22. recordings) brought Monteverdi out of the shadows. 
  23. Maybe EMI wil re-issue that sometime.
