- "first time around" for the Met Ring, I question this. Instead,
- I would suspect either the Met passed on her, or she was not
- available (or both). Singers of her fach tend to be scheduled
- way into the future.

- She is far from a "singer of last resort". Not only is she a hard
- worker and reliable, but her power and ability have not changed
- significantly since she did the recordings of the Bayreuth Ring.
- (She once sang BOTH the Empress and Dyer's wife in the same
- performance of "Die Frau Ohne Shatten" because her daughter's
- classmate was to be in the audience and did not want to disappoint
- her.)
