  26. Indeed it might.  My Sony portable has a bad DAC or something
  27. and it distorts on certain pasages such as soft flutes.  Other
  28. music sounds OK.  This is apparent on earphones, I've never had
  29. it connected to anything else.

  31. My recollection of Hirsch's comment was that any properly
  32. operating CD player will sound about the same.  (Obviously my
  33. portable isn't operating properly.) He also wrote that he
  34. thought there was a slight but definite difference between
  35. analog brick wall and oversampling, but hasn't decided which
  36. sounds better.

  38. In my own experience I would rate the sonic differences between
  39. properly operating CD players as negligible compared to the differences
  40. between different speakers, different listening rooms, and different 
  41. speaker placements.

  43. And now for something completely different: is there a long-play
  44. mode on the minidisc that would allow 3-4 hours of medium quality
  45. (possibly mono) recording?  What about changers or stackers?

  47. Fascinating to think of a recording medium that reminds me of
  48. the recording "chips" Spock used to get from the Computer.

  50. How many times can an MD be rerecorded?
