-
- I'm willing to accept it, because I believe that they do a good deal
- more than "pick CDs off the shelf and package them." CDC has a VERY
- large catalog - they appear to carry the entire selection of most of the
- labels that they list. Their selection is (I understand) up to about
- 60,000 different titles - four times that of Noteworthy.
-
- I would guess that CDC and Noteworthy handle their stocking and packing
- in a very different manner. Noteworthy seems to try to keep stock
- in-house of all of the discs that they list, so that they can "pull" an
- entire order at one shot and ship it the same day. As a result, they
- can ship discs very quickly - but their stock is necessarily limited to
- those discs that they find it economical to carry in-house. They
- concentrate on newer CD releases from major labels. Many of the minor
- labels aren't carried by Noteworthy at all, and I've found their
- coverage of re-releases to be rather sparse. Noteworthy does _not_ take
- special orders, as far as I know.
-
- I believe that CDC maintains only a modest stock of discs in their
- warehouse - rather less than the number of titles that they list as
- being available. When you order a disc that they don't stock, they
- probably order it from the manufacturer or a distributor - I'd guess
- that they send in new orders a couple of times a week. When the orders
- arrive, they break them down and sort the discs and pack them.
-
- CDC is quite up-front about the fact that delivery requires one business
- week plus the actual shipping time.
-
- I, too, like Noteworthy's rapid delivery of the discs that they carry...
- but I've found that Noteworthy carries only a fraction of the discs that
- I really want. CDC has 'em, and I'm certainly willing to wait a couple
- of weeks to get them.
