- Well, because he was extremely intelligent, and knew that heroin was not
- the thing to do, but because he was nonetheless powerless against his own
- addiction? That does not seem like a paradox, by any means. He knew well
- that narcotics weren't helping him at all, but that knowledge didn't help
- him to shake the habit.
