- Since Fresu is my favourite (living) trumpeter, I have a ton of his CDs.
- I highly recommend his two most recent offerings: LIVE IN MONTPELLIER
- (Splasch 301) and OSSI DI SEPPIA (Splasch 350). He's very much in
- the Milesean mold -- but I have yet to find him derivative in an annoying
- way. Quite the contrary, it is the freshness of his sound that I enjoy.
-
- MONTPELLIER is 73 minutes, and a fine example of his concert style
- (ala Miles) of running tunes together (these include some of the
- best of his own compositions from previous studio albums, plus
- Round Midnight, Only Women Bleed, and Well You Needn't). You get
- a good dose of his tasteful electronic effects here.
-
- OSSI is a studio session. If you're into clarinets, check this out
- for some fine work by Troves. The title track is a gorgeous
- ballad with an intermittent stop-time filled only by the lightest of
- brushwork. Ettore Fioravanti provides inspired drumming on both CDs.
