  12. BH═╣If I'm remembering correctly, John Sinclair was the founder of the
  13. BH═╣White Panthers, a Detroit-area militant radical group modeled
  14. BH═╣after the Black Panthers [not such an uncommon tribute in the late
  15. BH═╣60s and early 70s -- my favorite was the Grey Panthers, a militant
  16. BH═╣senior citizens group that sounds like a joke but was actually
  17. BH═╣very serious and played a large role in the fight for things like
  18. BH═╣eliminating mandatory retirement ages] whose membership were white
  19. BH═╣youth.  They were pro-drug so the marijuana arrest seems not
  20. BH═╣unlikely. ---

  22. John Sinclair, whom I knew personally, was also the manager of the
  23. MC5.  He wrote the linernotes to the band's 1st album (recorded live
  24. at The Grande Ballroom) and, I believe, was the one who coined the
  25. phrase "Kick out the jams, motherfuckers."
