-
- Musically, there was no difference between the two versions. The main
- segment which was excised consists of a discussion of how drugs influenced
- the album, and came immediately after the 'Lucy' playback. However, Disney
- did replace some of that time with other footage not in the British version.
- The net difference in time is a little over a minute. (Disney's is shorter)
-
- The segment that was excised basically consists of interview clips with each
- of the three Beatles + George Martin. A brief summary follows:
-
- Paul says that the drug scene is a much heavier thing then it used to be,
- and that he doesn't feel comfortable discussing the "psychidelic era" and
- marijuana / LSD in light of crack and glue sniffing.
-
- George says that LSD and pot do effect the way musicians see / feel the
- music..."I mean, marijuana was just like having a couple of beers, really, but
- LSD was more like going to the moon"
-
- Ringo says that they learned quickly that they could not *play* on acid, so the
- inspiration from those recreational drugs was kept separate from the creation
- of the music.
-
- Paul (in a priceless quote): "Famous old story of one of the cleaners at the
- Hammersmith Odeon saying 'That Ray Charles must be a mean old git, y'know,
- I just saw two of his musicians in the toilet sharing a cigarette! He can't
- pay them anything!'"
-
- George Martin describes their use of Pot in the studio, and how they would
- never do it in front of him, instead sneaking off to the 'loo' or canteen, and
- returning with beaming faces.
-
- Also cut is a segment where Paul, George and Ringo describe one time John
- thought he was taking an aspirin, but accidentally took a tab of LSD instead.
- Each then explained how there was no way the session could continue, and how
- they got John home.
-
- One last quote was shortened by the Disney folks (so it almost makes no
- sense in the US version.
-
- As aired on Disney
-
- George Martin: "George's joss sticks in the studio were alright"
-
- As aired in England
-
- George Martin: "George's joss sticks in the studio were alright, they covered
- the smell of the pot"
