- Ok folks, sorry about messing up the original posting, this is the
- section that is missing from "The Indispensable Chun Li Strategy Guide
- for the SNES". Have fun.
-
- (if you want to place this in order in the document, Sagat is harder
- than Balrog but actually easier than Vega, so he might go between them.
- Or, you could just place him in order of play (after Vega) ).
-
- Chun Li vs. Sagat: Sagat is annoying, but not particularly hard to beat.
- He's annoying because the computer apparently thinks it's funny to
- endlessly lunch Tiger fireballs at you (which you have to jump over).
- Anyway, let's dive in:
-
- a) First move of the round should be to jump straight up. 90% of the
- time Sagat's first move will be a Tiger fireball, and your jump will put
- you safely over it. I always respond to his fireballs by jumping, not
- crouching down for the high ones, because when you mix the jump and
- crouch you're bound to make a joystick errors sooner or later.
-
- b) You'll have to repeat a) as necessary. In general, if Sagat lets of
- a fireball as his first move, he'll follow with another. Be ready for
- it. If he fires a *third* fireball, he's probably going to fire a bunch,
- so just settle into a rhythm of jumping up and down. However, it's
- equally possible that instead of a third fireball he will begin walking
- towards you. If you have reflexively jumped up at this point, don't
- panic, that's what you want to do. If you haven't jumped up, now is the
- time to do it.
-
- c) We go back to that old mainstay move: the straight up roundhouse.
- Wait for Sagat to be about 1-2 body widths from you, and while you are
- in the air hit the "R" button for an airborne roundhouse. Note that the
- range for Sagat is a little longer than most other characters. If you
- see Sagat start to leap as he is walking towards you, IMMEDIATELY hit
- the Roundhouse key. If you get on it fast enough you've got him - Chun
- Li's Roundhouse will take care of the Tiger Uppercut, his knee attack,
- and all of his jumping kicks.
-
- d) The key to all of this is what happens after you connect with the
- Roundhouse. There are two ways for Sagat to come out, one where he lands
- on his back and one where he does a flip in mid-air. You'll have to play
- him a while before you learn what the flip looks like. If Sagat does a
- flip after you hit him DO NOT attempt to jump in and roundhouse him. He
- will Tiger Uppercut you, and that might be the round right there. If
- however he falls backwards, you can quickly jump in while revving a
- lightning leg (Roundhouse will work, but standard is safer) and hit him.
- Be aware that even if you succeed in lightning leg'ing Sagat that
- afterwards you are in a dangerous position - directly in front of him.
- You're first move after the leg should be to jump straight up, because
- he'll unleash a fireball. You should try to roundhouse him on the way
- down. Don't push your luck with close in attacks, and NEVER try to head
- stomp Sagat. He can go into that Tiger Uppercut almost instantly.
-
- As with Ken and Ryu, it's dangerous to jump diagonally away from Sagat,
- because you will likely connect with a fireball as you come down. Use
- the straight up jump.
-
- If you having trouble with the timing against Sagat, resort to only
- using the straight up roundhouse. You won't win every battle, but you
- will be able to beat him without too much trouble.
