- The Game gear may have been released after the Lynx, but IMO it's even
- older technology-wise than the Atari unit. Remember, the Game Gear is based
- on the way-outdated designs of the Sega Master System, and in this day and
- age, that's old all right (what, everyone talks about the SNES and Genesis,
- and barely acknowledge the NES already...).
-
- In order of technology, from lowest to least advanced, the stuff on the
- market today:
-
- * Nintendo Gameboy - Dated from the day it was released. This would have been
- a technological marvel in the late 70s/early 80s, but now it's pitiful.
-
- * Sega Game Gear - Probably mid-to-late 80s, around the time of the 8-bit
- console systems. Aside from color, there's nothing it does that a Gameboy
- cannot do.
-
- * TTI TurboExpress - Late 80s through 1990. Ahead of the Game Gear for its
- improved graphics engine. Pricy and bulky as heck, though.
-
- * Atari Lynx - Late 80s through 1990. A _little_ bit ahead of the Express
- for its more sophisticated graphics engine (scaling, distortion being
- the most obvious extras). One can reasonably argue that its lower-
- resolution screen takes it down a bit, though.
-
- As for the next generation... Oh, take a Super NES or a Genesis and scale
- it down. Most obvious and easiest application of technology.
