- I have all four games, and I find all four of them to be excellent.
-
- There's a certain amount of overlap, but not all that much. Obviously,
- most of the movements are the same, except that Sonic II on the Game
- Gear doesn't have the Super Dash (or whatever they call it - the one
- where you burn rubber :-)).
-
- Some of the Zones seem to borrow from each system. For example,
- Wing Fortress from Sonic II on the Genesis looks the last Zone of Sonic I
- on the Game Gear. Both Sonic IIs have tunnels - the Genesis version
- has the tunnels in the Chemical Plant Zone, while the Game Gear
- has them in the Scrambled Egg Zone (MUCH harder, as you have to direct
- where you want to go).
-
- The bonus stages are different for each game:
- Gen:Sonic I - nice, relaxing maze which contains a chaos emerald
- GG: - pinball game (you get your chaos emeralds from within the zone)
- Gen: Sonic II - fast paced race through a tunnel (if you get enough
- rings, you get a chaos emerald)
- GG: - no bonus stage (the biggest gripe I have with the game)
- (other gripes: you never know how many chaos emeralds
- you have, although it's easy enough to keep track; you
- never know how many Sonics you have left over, once you
- pass 9.)
-
- Tails is not a player in the GG version of Sonic II, but he does
- figure strongly in the plot line, as well as appear in the title
- screen for each Zone. This was a nice compromise in my opinion.
- I'd have to say that overall, the Sonic IIs are better than
- the Sonic Is, although this might be due to my rather biased
- opinion of anything having to do with Tails the fox. :-)
-
- Email me if this isn't quite what you're looking for...
