  12. upcoming PAPA 3 pinball tournament in New York, to be held the weekend
  13. of February 14.  There will be more information posted in the weeks to
  14. come; consider this just a taste to whet your appetites.

  18. PAPA 3: THE BIG TIME!

  21. WHEN IT IS

  23. Friday, February 12th, 1993 to Sunday, February 14, 1993.

  26. WHERE IT IS
  27.  
  28. New York City, the Park Central Hotel, 7th Avenue between 55th  and
  29. 56th Streets.  The hotel is offering participating players and their
  30. families special discounted rates during the tournament.  For
  31. information and reservations, call 1-800-843-6664.  You must mention
  32. the code name "PAPA" when making reservations to receive special
  33. rates.

  36. DIVISIONS
  37.  
  38. There are three singles divisions (A, B, and C) based upon your own
  39. evaluation of your skill level, with commensurate prize monies.  There
  40. is one doubles division and one youth division (under 16).  Players
  41. may enter only one singles division.  For example, if you enter the A
  42. division, you may not reenter in the B or C division.

  45. QUALIFYING ROUNDS AND ENTRY FEES
  46.  
  47. Qualifying rounds will begin on Friday, February 12th at 10 AM and run
  48. until 5 PM.  They will begin again on Saturday, February 13th at 9 AM
  49. and run until 1 AM. No entries or re-entries will be admitted after
  50. 12:30 AM on Saturday.
  51.  
  52. All machines will be set for free play.  Entry fees for singles
  53. divisions are $15.00 for each entry.  Entry fees for doubles are
  54. $20.00 per team for each entry; for the youth division, entry fees are
  55. $10.00 per entry.  Players may re-enter as many times as they like, in
  56. order to improve their positions.  Each re-entry costs the same as the
  57. original entry fee: $15.00 for singles; $20.00 for doubles; $10.00 for
  58. youth.  Re-entry does not invalidate previous scores.  The 16 highest
  59. scores, as of 6 PM on Saturday, will advance to the final rounds.

  66. FINAL ROUNDS

  68. On Sunday, February 14th, the quarter-final, semifinal, and final
  69. rounds for all divisions will begin at 9 AM, and continue until
  70. completion.  No additional entry fees will be required for final round
  71. players.

  74. SPECIAL EVENTS
  75.  
  76. On all three days, special mini-events will be occurring, including
  77. one-ball tourneys, scotch doubles, Zen pinball, parent-child and
  78. two-minute contests.  Each of these events will require an entry fee,
  79. and will offer significant purses, plus additional prizes.  A full
  80. schedule will be available in January.

  83. MACHINES

  85. Final machine selection is unavailable at this time.  However, the
  86. tournament will be conducted on three banks of 8-10 machines of
  87. 1992-1993 vintage.  The final rounds will be played on the newest
  88. machines, with the possibility of one or more games making their world
  89. premiere at PAPA 3.  There will be information sheets available for
  90. all games, instructing players about game features and scoring.

  93. PRIZE MONEY

  95. PAPA 3 will offer the richest prize package ever.  A total purse of
  96. $15,000 features the following prize structure:

  101. 2nd Prize: $1,500, plus PAPA plaque
  102. 3rd Prize: $750, plus PAPA plaque

  134. benefit the New York Special Olympics will take place.  Featuring
  135. pinball competitions with unbelievable prizes, sports and
  136. entertainment celebrities, live music, great food and an auction of
  137. pinball memorabilia, the event promises to become another great PAPA
  138. tradition.  Tournament participants and their guests will be able to
  139. attend at the special reduced price of $25.00.  Stay tuned, more
