- Well, I don't know if any of you have been expecting this by now, but
- nevertheless, my conscience got the better of me. Yes, I am the other
- partner to the virus which attacked Furry MUCK on New Year's Eve.
-
- As I read over the log that had been quoted over several newsgroups
- which I was reading earlier today, I saw it in a slightly different
- light. As a MU**er I am used to many of the more entertaining aspects of
- MU**ing, and do not tend to get too emotionally involved in what goes on.
- I guess what I am trying to say is that I didn't realize the extent to
- which I was going to be hurting people's RL feelings. A few of the
- postings that followed the log definitely made me aware of this. I
- figure that I could have gotten away with the whole thing, but I would
- have had a hard time worrying about it, knowing that I did something
- wrong. I am usually a decent Christian and part of what God has told me
- is that I did something gravely wrong. Or if you don't like the idea of
- God telling me something, just call it a guilty conscience. To begin
- with the whole thing sounded like a great idea; I could test out some of
- my coding abilities, and work on some other programs that I had in mind,
- but what it all boiled down to was, after the fact I didn't like myself
- so much for what occurred. I never thought 90% of the people online
- would get infected, and that's really no excuse. I'm not going to hide
- behind something that will sound fake, or even something that I can make
- up that would sound absolutely plausible; I'm just going to say I'm sorry
- for any harm I have done. From what I understand, the cleanup was fairly
- simple, only requiring one program that everyone would run once to become
- uninfected, and I'm glad of that fact.
-
- I know that some of you aren't going to accept this for what it is
- worth, and will still intend to send email. Please do not send email to
- the account that I am posting this from, it will only clutter someone
- else's disk. Instead mail it to my computer at 'mmead@vtssi.vt.edu' i'm
- sure some of you recognize that name from before when I felt my privacy
- was invaded. I should have known that you would feel the same, and that
- RL feelings would get hurt. Lynx and I have already talked about the
- whole thing, if you have any further questions you don't feel comfortable
- talking with me about, please ask him. Thank you for reading this if you
- have read thus far.

- PS--Foxen: thanks
