  12. [ On new year's eve and new years day, FurryMUCK got hit with a virus program.
  13. It copied itself from descriptions of people, so that when you looked at
  14. someone who was infected, you too would be infected. No doubt more posts
  15. will be made to this effect.  But now you get to see something totally
  16. different.  You will see what went on from the eyes of the people who wrote
  17. the virus itself. ]

  19. [ Note: Yozduk was the name of the character who loaded the virus program
  20. online.  Yozduk's comments will be enclosed in {}s, and my comments will
  21. be enclosed in []s. ]
  22.  
  23. [ First a little background on what this virus did.  As stated, the virus
  24. was able to copy itself inside of player descriptions.  But...  The virus
  25. also copied itself onto exits, so every time someone exited a room or
  26. used an exit linked to a program, they got reinfected if they removed the
  27. protection before.  In fact, the virus copied itself onto everything it
  28. could get its hands on.  It copied itself into the room description, so
  29. that you would get infected even when you just WALKED INTO a room.  It
  30. infected all of the room exits it could, and all of the contents.  In
  31. addition to this, it also had a list of all of the exits in the global
  32. environment (for you non-muckers, an exit in the global environment can
  33. be used by ANYONE in the muck ANYWHERE in the muck).  It checked every
  34. single exit and tried to infect it if it could.  If the virus could get
  35. into globals such as 'say' or 'pose' it could infect the entire set of
  36. connected players.  Furry was lucky that this did not happen.  Furry was
  37. also graced with a second blessing.  The program was set up to rename one
  38. of the global exits to something that would gag almost all commands in
  39. the muck from working.  This included commands like @shutdown, which shuts
  40. down the muck, @wall, which is used to give messages to everyone online,
  41. and @name, so that the exit couldn't be removed.  However, this fate did not
  42. occur.
  43.   No matter.  The virus still spread at an alarming rate.  If you were
  44. infected, the virus would make a new set of exits on your person which
  45. would override many of the global exits.  These exits were say, pose,
  46. whisper, page, and spoof; the only ways of getting messages out (aside
  47. from @wall, which only wizards can do).  The exits were linked to copies
  48. of the say, pose, page, whisper, and spoof programs that furry used.
  49. The only differece was this small patch.  If the time was 11:58 pm or
  50. later, when you tried to output a message, YOU would see it but everyone
  51. ELSE who was supposed to see it would not.  In effect, people would think
  52. that everyone was ignoring them.
  53.   There was one more patch, however.  It logged all messages that the
  54. person who used the program saw.  And here is the log file.  Remember!
  55. All messages enclosed in []s are comments by me, and all messages enclosed
  56. in {}s are comments by Yozduk! ]

  58. {  Well, I guess that pretty much sums it all up for us.  It's a shame that
  59. there was an unforseeable bug in the page program, but upon thinking about
  60. that and the code that was used, I realized it was a blessing.  It just
  61. allowed us to show how clueless furries in general are.  I'm now actually
  62. glad that that bug was there, and the log which follows should reveal that.
  63.    I hope that you enjoy what is to follow.  It all took place inside of
  64. 25 minutes.  I'm going to have to do some research as to why things started
  65. to majorly crash when my character was not online.  Too bad it couldn't have
  66. lasted just a little bit longer.  No matter though, I think that what we did
  67. gather will show all of the furries out there a bit about themselves and
  68. their motives for the entire MUCK experience.  Tinysex runs rampant on that
  69. muck, and I bow before you in taking one step to prevent it, if only for a
  70. short while.  I'm not totally against it, it does have its purposes, but I
  71. for one am not about to get so engrossed in it as to completely forget any
  72. RL sex life.

  74. to piece together what happened New Year's Eve.  I just have one final

  241. MANY other people report this bug and NONE of them clue in that something
  242. is obviously amiss.]
