- And it was always pretty darn stupid. Any sort of high tech machinery
- requires that you have a basic understanding of how the system operates
- to repair it. If the IS had no idea how any of the machinery worked, they
- couldn't fix anything and all the 'Mechs would be broken down within about
- half a year. (Anyone who has worked on any high-tech military equipment will
- back this up. Mean time between failure in weapons systems is measured in
- hours, not centuries.)

- ECM works at a distance, not up close. Radar and other electromagnetic
- gear will "burn through" ECM if it is close to the target. Lasers are
- almost unjammable as they operate by shining a flashlight emitting one
- solitary frequency at a target. Specular reflection of that frequency
- lights the target up like a christmas tree to the missles/bombs which
- are set to home on that frequency. You would need an aerosol cloud to
- stop that sort of thing. Any infantryman could paint the 'Mechs using
- a field portable laser. (They do it now.)

-
- You really don't need to target the "vulnerable" areas in the armor.
- Modern missles can sink a frigate with one or two shots. They
- would easily blow through the armor by main force.
-
- Basically, attempting to mesh reality in weapons systems and BattleTech
- and Centurion just does not work. FASA has clue zero about that sort of
- thing and has always designed weapons systems that were outdated in
- the 70's for their games of the far future.
