  14. Ten-year old Lefong Hua scored an impressive 3.5 out of 5 in the
  15. Open section of a tournament in Montreal (Canada) which ended
  16. yesterday. His results were as follows (he was ranked 45th out
  17. of 49 players at the start):

  20. Round 2 - opponent's rating 2181   0.5 - 0.5
  21. Round 3 - opponent's rating 1900     1 - 0
  22. Round 4 - opponent's rating 2347     0 - 1

  27. His performance rating was 2278, raising his rating to 1947.

  29. After adjusting for the "deflated ratings" of Canadian players, his

  33. His photo was on the front cover of the February 1992 issue of CHESS
  34. LIFE (upper right, holding trophy), after winning the Grade 4 section
  35. of the National Elementary School Championships (Nov. 1991).

  38. learning to write, and cannot record his moves!

  40. Does anyone know if a ten-year old has ever had an expert (or a master)
  41. rating before? (Fischer became a master at 13).
