  31. There are lots of good rides here.  I would recommend 
  32. Lake Chabot , near Oakland.  It has about a 12 mile
  33. loop trail with climbing and lots of downhill.  But,
  34. beware on the few paved sections, the local police 
  35. like to nail downhillers for speeding.  This is only
  36. where you see speedlimit signs.  They use radar guns!

  38. Another nice ride is Mission Peak, in Fremont.  It
  39. takes me about one and a half hours of climbing to
  40. reach the summit.  Then the fun begins, 3.5 miles of
  41. fast downhill!  I have hit 47 mph (according to my
  42. computer) on the way down.  Best time to ride it is
  43. on weekdays, not many hikers or horses.

  45. Another great ride is in Aptos (near Santa Cruz).
  46. It has a nice steady nine mile climb under big
  47. redwood trees and crosses a couple of streams.
  48. When you get to the top, you get a nice veiw of
  49. the Pacific Ocean.  Then, you have a nine mile
  50. descent.

  52. These are a few of my favorites.  I'm sure that
  53. the many other mtn bikers in the bay area will
  54. offer more choices.
