  13. My brother-in-law has an '86 Toyota Corolla, carbureted 4 cylinder/5 
  14. speed that has a very noticable "lurch" going steady state speed in 
  15. any gear.  It does not do this under acceleration and it idles smoothly.
  16. It has been doing it for about a year.  They have had it tuned up twice
  17. by different shops, and at least the last time they changed out the
  18. spark plugs.  One mechanic told them "bad gas" but this has been a
  19. consistant problem which I would have expected to have gone away with
  20. contaminated gas.

  22. I suspect some sort of ignition problem (like carbon tracking in
  23. the distributor cap) so I recommended changing cap, rotor and wires.

  25. What is the net.wisdom on other possible causes that he should be 
  26. checking into?
