- My brother-in-law has an '86 Toyota Corolla, carbureted 4 cylinder/5
- speed that has a very noticable "lurch" going steady state speed in
- any gear. It does not do this under acceleration and it idles smoothly.
- It has been doing it for about a year. They have had it tuned up twice
- by different shops, and at least the last time they changed out the
- spark plugs. One mechanic told them "bad gas" but this has been a
- consistant problem which I would have expected to have gone away with
- contaminated gas.
-
- I suspect some sort of ignition problem (like carbon tracking in
- the distributor cap) so I recommended changing cap, rotor and wires.
-
- What is the net.wisdom on other possible causes that he should be
- checking into?
-
- Thanks in advance. (please post recommendations so others may benefit)
