- Is the substance coming from the tailpipe SMOKE or STEAM? Steam is normal --
- water condenses in the engine after shutdown, causing excess steam in the
- exhaust during warmup.
- Smoke, on the other hand, is due to combustion of anti-freeze. It could be
- that the car has a small gasket leak causing a buildup of anti-freeze which
- combusts during startup, although not causing enough smoke to be noticable
- after startup.
