- About a year ago, I started upgrading the sound system in my 1990
- Acura Legend (2-door). I replaced the factory radio with an Alpine
- CD player with a separate amp. I also trashed the factory rear speakers
- and replaced them with a pair of JBL's (left over from my previous car).
- I've decided it's finally time to do something about the front speakers,
- and would like some advice.
-
- I've decided to go with a separate component system (tweeter, midrange,
- and crossover). The midrange will fit into the factory mount, and I
- can mount the tweeter high on the door where the side window defrost vent
- is. Should the tweeter be aimed back toward the passenger compartment,
- mounted flush toward the middle of the car, or forward (in hopes of getting
- better sound distribution by reflecting off the windshield)?
-
- Also, I've been looking at speakers made by Alpine ($170), Boston Acoustic
- ($220), and Polk ($300). It's difficult to measure the quality of the
- speakers by listening in the store. Are the Polk's $130 better than the
- Alpine's? Or are there some other speakers I should be looking into?
- I usually don't turn the music very loud - it's more important to me to
- have a good quality sound at lower volume. Any advice you folks may have
- will be greatly appreciated.
-
- Thanks in advance.
