- First, I wouldn't say DAT has died...it's just not finding a wide spread
- use in the consumer market. I know of several people using them in
- professional applications...those same people would never use DCC. The
- differences as far as I can tell (I'm no specialist) are:

- DCC uses a compression scheme (lossy?) while DAT info is uncompressed
- (lossless?).
- DCC does not allow sub tracks for time codes and such while DAT does.
- DCC plays analog cassettes as well as DCC format but from what I've heard,
- the DCC deck does a very poor job of playing back analog cassettes.
- DAT plays DAT cassettes only.

- This is my understanding of them at least. Of course now we have MD
- (Mini Disk) to confuse things even more. I had a chance to check out an
- MD walkman a couple of days ago and it was terrific. I'm hoping that an
- automotive version will be available soon.
