- I read the following in the TV section of the 12/20 Sunday
- Oregonian. Most of it we already know, but I thought I'd type
- it in anyway. You know, Tad never tired of hearing about himself...
-
- My apologies if this has been seen by all already.
-
- Anyways, this is retyped totally without permission:
-
- "Tad comes back to Pine Valley"
- by John N. Goudas
-
- If you had any doubts about Michael E. Knight's enormous popularity,
- you should have seen the turnout for the press conference held recently
- to officially announce his return to "All My Children" in the roll of
- Tad ... well, he'll be known as Ted for awhile.
-
- Remember the last time we saw Tad in the environs of Pine Valley, he was
- hitching a ride to California to get a job in the vineyards. Oh, yes,
- he was thought drowned by all his loved ones and was suffering severe memory
- loss. He didn't even know his name was Tad.
-
- Knight left "All My Children" two years ago and headed to California for
- prime time and movie work but there was little of either. He made a
- couple of films ("Date With An Angel" {Evelyn's note: I thought this flick
- was made during a previous hiatus from AMC} and the upcoming "Hexed") and
- did some episodic TV ("Murder, She Wrote" and "Grapevine"), but the pickings
- were lean. Although he got a few nibbles from the West Coast soaps, he felt
- this was a good time to renew his bonds with "All My Children". The producers
- and writers seem to adore Tad and welcomed Knight back to the fold with
- open-ended storylines.
-
- They have come up with a terrific way to get Tad/Ted back to Pine Valley
- (he has business dealings with Dimitri whom he never met as Tad), and it
- will take some time before he runs into anyone who would recognize him as
- Tad. He is thoroughly convinced he is Ted, a man who was kidnapped when
- he was 8 and then miraculously showed up at the vineyards where the boy's
- mother (played by Barbara Rush) calls his return an act of God.
-
- This is definitely the type of soap plot that kiips viewers glued to their
- set and Knight's popularity in the role will only enhance the highly
- charged tear-jerker that will be played out over a few months.
-
- A big change in Knight's life is his recent marriage to actress Catherine
- Hickland, who portrayed Jenny/Julie on "Capitol" and Courtney on "Texas",
- two soaps which are now defunct. Catherine accompanied her husband back from
- California to New York, where "All My Children" is produced.
-
- When asked if his wife will be appearing on "AMC", Michael said it was a
- possibility but he wouldn't know how to react playing love scenes, for
- example, with his own wife.
-
- In any case, Tad/Ted will have his hands (and arms) full when he finds out
- Brooke and he have a son, old flame Dixie is in a terrible state of mind
- and his mothers will become rivals for his affection. Move over, fellas,
- Michael E. Knight is back where he belongs.
