  29. Yes, either 3 or 4 episodes of the original run were videotaped. 
  30. It was done as a cost-cutting measure to keep the series under its
  31. budget for that particular season. What you're seeing on teevee now
  32. are "kinescopes" of the original tapes, that is, the tapes were preserved
  33. by pointing a camera at a monitor and filming them. Back in the olden
  34. days (late 50s, early 60s), videotape was a young technology and 
  35. was very expensive so tape was recycled and used again instead of being
  36. used once and then stored.  (Still, it was less $$ to shoot on tape
  37. than to make a mini-movie on film).
  38. Visit any good bookstore and pick up "The Twilight Zone Companion"
  39. if you enjoy the series, it's an invaluable guidebook, and can fill
  40. you in on all the details of these few taped episodes.

  42. By the way, here's a trivia question that all good Zone fans can
  43. answer: one episode of the Zone was purchased by Rod Serling and
  44. ran only once as an original episode - it was actually an award
  45. winning French short film.  What was the title of this episode
  46. and who was the author of the original short story on which it
