  31. A hobby shop near me has a _real_ phaser for sale - I don't know who produces
  32. them or where they came from, but it is (allegedly) an actual Paramount
  33. stage prop.  They have one each of two varieties of phaser (one the DustBuster
  34. variety, one of the pocket variety) and a medical tricorder.  The only thing
  35. missing was the special effects to produce the beam.  The owner did comment
  36. on how the larger phaser would make an effective self defense weapon - the
  37. thing weighs several pounds, and because of the unusual shape, any wounds
  38. produced by thrashing an assailant with it would be difficult to
  39. figure out (unless the forensic pathologist is an especially avid Trek fan).

  41. Oh, the price?  $145.
