- A hobby shop near me has a _real_ phaser for sale - I don't know who produces
- them or where they came from, but it is (allegedly) an actual Paramount
- stage prop. They have one each of two varieties of phaser (one the DustBuster
- variety, one of the pocket variety) and a medical tricorder. The only thing
- missing was the special effects to produce the beam. The owner did comment
- on how the larger phaser would make an effective self defense weapon - the
- thing weighs several pounds, and because of the unusual shape, any wounds
- produced by thrashing an assailant with it would be difficult to
- figure out (unless the forensic pathologist is an especially avid Trek fan).
-
- Oh, the price? $145.
-
- Anyone know a) where they'd be getting them from, or
- b) what they're made from (plaster casts?)
