- I don't know whether SciFi Channel or USA is using this technology,
- but there is equipment available that will allow you to shorten the
- running time of an episode without actually cutting anything.

- Basically, they just compress the sound and video so that it can
- be played in less time (leaving more time for commercials). Obviously,
- in the case of sound, they have to pitch-shift to avoid having the
- voices get higher -- remember Alvin and the Chipmunks?
