  12. My friend Gillian, who I've known since sixth grade, was Tommy 
  13. Thompson's collaborator on "Promised Land," so I heard a lot 
  14. about it while it was being written...  For instance, her 
  15. original script was set in a small farming town in Illinois that 
  16. was meant to remind Sam of his hometown and his family; in the 
  17. course of prepping the script for production, it was decided to 
  18. move the setting to Elk Ridge and the scene with Sam's Dad (as 
  19. well as the Christmas setting) was added.
