  34. George Lucas said basically that in _From Star Wars to Jedi_, when he was 
  35. talking about that scene, he said that at that part of the script, all that
  36. was written was "Darth Vader says something that enrages Luke".  He pondered
  37. over that for days until he realized that the answer was staring him in the
  38. face...his sister.  From then on, Luke was supposed to have been taken over 
  39. by the Dark Side, but when he slices off his father's hand on the bridge, 
  40. much like a reversal of the Bespin saber duel, Luke steps away from the Dark 
  41. Side.

  43. as an aside, _From Star Wars to Jedi_ has the Jabba scene from ANH in pan 'n 
  44. scan version (a shock after watching the other three movies on my new VHS
  45. letterboxed edition--i'll never watch Star Wars on P 'n S again!!).  Jabba 
  46. was filmed as a human, and the special effects people were going to change
  47. the human into a stop-motion creature, but the scene was cut before they were
  48. able to do that.
