  22. we married last night under the milky way,
  23. last night in the deep hours before dawn:
  24. our last night together &
  25. in front of your fireplace
  26. a silent proposal was made,
  27. embers glowing sunset red and us holding each other 
  28. lost in the post-midnight blackness
  29. and drifting...
  30.  
  31. the dream-time was years from now:
  32. parent-years, grandparent-years, all passed
  33. and long behind us, and a certain pressure filled
  34. my head funneling towards my soul
  35. searching for memories that
  36. inexplicably 
  37. weren't yet there
  38.  
  39. I then entered a state of duality
  40. a state where I was both here and later;
  41. holding you against me and
  42. watching us from a plateau
  43. twenty, thirty, fifty years high:
  44. it was a barren landscape and we were
  45. each wandering alone
  46. across lost, drifting sands
  47. blind to each other's paths
  48. grey and dying
  49.  
  50. and by the time I woke in your arms
  51. continents had drifted apart and fresh stars had
  52. supernovaed and collapsed inwards
  53.  
  54. we soon headed outside:
  55. ice cracked
  56. frost snapped &
  57. snow softly broke underfoot,
  58. pronouncing us man and wife
  59. and
  60. the stars above honored the newlyweds with clear blue song;
  61. december showered us with heavenly snowboughs;
  62. porch-hung icicles cried tears of crystal joy;
  63. barren trees bowed in the bitter winds,
  64. tipped their tophats &
  65. gravely shook hands with man and wife across the deep-gray backyard,
  66. wishing us the best of luck in the
  67. future
