- October Rainstorm Tango
- ----------------------------------
- It rained little slashes under the streetlight
- and behind every corner dragons waited for someone
- --anyone--
- to believe in them. But the only steam
- rose from the manhole covers. I would have sailed
- a newspaper boat in the pool of water on the corner
- of Pike and Broadway, had I been able to fold one just right
- but I was holding your umbrella for you, and you
- were following the numbered dance steps set in the sidewalk
- until
- you discovered that your feet had known all along
- and you danced north, a smaller and smaller swishing raincoat,
- a wider and wider horizon.
